CSP Outdoors: Wire Mesh Goggles
Fog?....what fog? - 7/26/07 - reviewed by

Ok we all know there is nothing worse than being on point in your squad and your goggles start to fog. Solution: The CSP Outdoors Wire Mesh Chipping Goggles. These things are great, and a great value!

The CSP Outdoors Wire Mesh Chipping Goggles
What's Included, Construction, Basic Info

Included with the package was the goggles...and a receipt. That's it. The frame is made up of polycarbonate (sounds fairly tactical) and the mesh is made of of steel threads. These goggles were created as Chainsaw Chipping Goggles but had heard numerous reports of people using them for airsoft.

Feel and Comfort

The frames have a nice soft padding around the inside which makes contact with your head around your eyes. Feels great. The very first time I went out on an Op with them it was strange being able to kind of see the wire mesh grid but then a squad mate asked me about 10 minutes later what I thought about them and I truly forgot I had them on. Your eyes seem to just see past the mesh like it isn't even there. Oh and there was no fog ...ever. If you have never used wire mesh goggles then I cannot stress to you how good this feels. No smearing your home made anit-fog solution on your lenses only to have it bead up in 15 minutes causing the same problem you were initially try to avoid. It is also nice that they allow your eyes to breath a little. If there is a breeze it goes right through the mesh and helps a great deal. They secure to your head by an adjustable high strength stretchy band. Never had a problem with them trying to come off on me.

Durability, Fire Test

Obviously these goggles are meant to protect the one part of your body that is at the most risk (your eyes). So we made sure to put it through a situation in which you should never encounter in the field. We fire tested the goggles from 2 feet with .20g bb's at 420 feet per second. There was a dent in the goggles mesh but you could only notice by running your finger over it. Couldn't really see the deformity with your eyes. If it will hold up to 420fps at near point blank range then they are good enough for me. I know some people are worried that the bb could shatter and send shards passing threw the mesh. We don't think this is likely due to the 20 threads per inch design of the CSP's.

We do encourage you to conduct your own test if you decide to purchase these goggles. Can't be to careful with your eyes!

Final Thoughts

Pros: Not very expensive, stood up nicely to our tests, NO FOG!

Cons: There are none. Just get them!

The goggles come in 3 different mesh patterns. 10, 20 and 30 threads per inch. Most airsoft fields I play at require a minimum of 20 threads per inch. So make sure you check with your local clubs rules and get the correct goggles. Almost everyone on my team now uses these goggles. When you order them it seems to only take about 4 days for them to show up. Don't really see how I can't give this product a perfect 10. Honestly the only thing that would make them better is if they came in OD.
