WE-Tech M1911
You will feel like a better airsofter just holding it - 7/26/07 - reviewed by

The 1911 is a classic choice for Gas Blowback Pistols in the airsoft community.  This particular version made by WE-Tech is an excellent choice for the price.  I purchased this model from Evike.com for $99.95.

What's Included, Construction

This sidearm was shipped in it’s own hard plastic, foam lined case with the pistol, two magazines and a small bag of bbs of unknown quality.  At first glance the pistol has a great color and solid look to it.  The orange tip is an eyesore as is usual in airsoft, however, everything else is aesthetic eye candy for gun lovers.  Pick it up and it has a good heavy solid feel to it due to the metal construction.  The only plastic parts are the orange tip, the grips, the magazine feeding mechanisms, and the carriage inside the slide that holds the valve system.  It feels great to hold, no complaints.

Pre Shooting Check

Before testing, I cleaned the barrel without finding much dirt inside.  Also, as is with most gas blowbacks, oil the slide and the top of the magazine for optimum performance in the future.  For best results, use a pure silicon based lubricant that is free of petroleum products (like this one from Evike.com).

First Shots, The Chrono

Stock out of the Box the WE-Tech M1911 comes firing 295 (.20g with Green gas) and 330 (.20g with red gas).  Unfortunately, I did find that it is next to impossible to get through an entire mag and get the slide to lock back with green gas.  I am not saying it is safe for your Gas Blowback so please understand the risk of doing what I am about to describe.  I switched to Red Gas.  Since then I have plenty of power to tear through a full magazine and lock the slide back on empty.  I haven’t encountered any problems with parts breaking.  I feel fairly safe in saying that this Gas Blowbacks’ internals are strong enough.  Just make sure to oil your parts often if you choose to do so.

First Range Test, Accuracy, Distance

Now for the accuracy.  Do keep in mind that this is a pistol and is not designed for long ranges.  According to our tests, the M1911 can unload an entire magazine on a pie pan target at fifty feet without missing.  Push it to seventy-five feet, you have a fifty-fifty chance of a hit on a man size target.

Hop-up and Barrel

The hop up works very well, however has a slight disadvantage.  Every time you need to adjust it, you must field strip the side arm as the hop up adjustment is inside the slide.  When you get it where it needs to be however, it will work flawlessly.  The barrel is of average construction with nothing to brag of.

Disassembly

Disassembly of this pistol is fairly self explanatory, there is a slide lock that holds the slide down.  You just move the slide forward and push the pin out and the gun falls apart.  No screws or parts to really lose.

Spare Parts and Upgradability

There are many parts made for the airsoft version 1911 however, I have no confirmed information on the compatibility of those parts.

Final Thoughts

I have been very pleased with this Gas Blowback.  It is a strong piece of work.  I hate that it doesn’t perform well with Green Gas, however since the switch to red gas, It’s been amazing.  I have no further complaints and getting a gas gun with two mags for under a hundred bucks, what more can you ask for.
